Seth has 20 years of experience as an executive working with startup ventures as well as for market-leading entities. Prior to Socius, Seth was Vice President of Commerce and Finance for Marconi plc. Earlier in his career, Seth was a long-time employee of FORE Systems, Inc. Joining FORE when it had 12 employees and $1 million in revenue, he was part of FORE’s initial and secondary public offerings and seven acquisitions as the company grew to more than 3,000 employees and nearly $1 billion in revenue. At the time FORE was acquired by Marconi, Seth had worldwide responsibility for treasury, risk management and investor relations. He has been involved in the formation and launch of multiple hi-tech companies as a founder, investor, consultant and director. Seth has extensive experience in business development, capital formation, corporate finance and treasury operations, technology commercialization, risk management and investor relations. He holds a B.B.A. degree and a M.S. degree in Computer Science (focused on artificial intelligence) from the University of Massachusetts and a M.B.A. degree from Duquesne University.

Richard has served as an executive or consultant for startup and early stage public and private healthcare and biotechnology companies for over 15 years. The technologies include therapeutics for infectious diseases, analytical and diagnostic tools, genetically engineered crops, pharmacy benefit management and data mining. Previously he was with Westinghouse Electric Corporation for over 20 years, where he served in a variety of management positions including controller, manufacturing manager and corporate staff positions. He has extensive experience in licensing, business development, strategic planning, fund raising, financial modeling and structured problem-solving techniques. Richard holds a B.A. from Cornell University and a M.B.A. from Boston University.

He has founded five companies, including PositionLab, a marketing consultancy focused on positioning small to mid-sized corporations; GUIdance Technologies, makers of an object-oriented programming environment; and Computer Possibilities, a creator of documentation and training materials for artificial intelligence software platforms. Bill has served as CEO, Marketing Executive, Software Product Manager, Third Party Alliances Manager, and created two consulting practices. He has helped found, raise money for, and manage more than a dozen companies. He served as Adjunct Professor in Duquesne University's School of Entrepreneurship. Bill holds a B.A. in English from the State University of New York, and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh.

Reed specializes in assisting start-up companies and entrepreneurs with business plan development, market research, identification of synergistic technologies available for licensing and negotiation strategy for in-licensing of technology. Prior to joining Socius, Reed was Director of Investment Programs and Incubation Services for the Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse where he led scientific/business review of proposals, due diligence review of company documents, and directed a 17,000 square foot incubator facility. Earlier in his career he was Technology Licensing Manager at the University of Pittsburgh, which included forming research partnerships with private companies, protecting and licensing new technologies, and formation of spin-off companies. Prior to that he was Director of Entrepreneurial Services and Staff Attorney at Ben Franklin Technology Center of Western Pennsylvania (now Innovation Works). Reed holds a B.A. degree from The University of Dayton, a M.B.A. degree from Carnegie Mellon University, and a J.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Joe brings 25 years of experience in growing and managing technology businesses from start-ups to multinational corporations. He is a proven leader and strategist, with a track record of identifying, evaluating and pursuing the strategic and financial prospects of new market opportunities. His consulting experience has focused on acquisitions, strategic partnerships and corporate strategy development in industry groups such as Engineering Services, Telecom/Datacom Equipment, Public Safety markets and Renewable Energy companies. He was formerly Vice President of Strategic Business Development at Marconi PLC, a multinational technology company, where he led an international team responsible for recommending, evaluating and negotiating strategic alliances, investments and acquisitions worldwide, including leading due diligence and integration activities in Brazil, China, Germany, Ireland, Israel and the United Kingdom. Previously he was one of the founding members of Teleprobe Systems, which developed test and monitoring systems for the telecommunications industry. Joe is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Joe holds several patents relating to telecommunication and datacom testing and circuit design.

Linda holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Pittsburgh and a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh Law School. Her principal focus is on intellectual property in conjunction with biotechnology, with an emphasis on taking ideas and concepts from the laboratory bench to market. Linda’s combines understanding of life sciences research with expertise in intellectual property, providing a unique perspective to our team. She has over 10 years of experience in life sciences research, lectures at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health and has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles.
John has 10 years of managerial experience in various positions with major corporations, such as Procter & Gamble and Warner Lambert. With Warner Lambert, John was the manager of new product development. With Procter & Gamble, John managed the Super K Mart account. He also has start-up experience working with Ebuyxpress as the director of Sales & Marketing, and was a founding partner of a medical technology company, CMC Matrix. John is currently a Ph.D. candidate studying corporate strategy at the University of Pittsburgh. He also lectures on corporate strategy at the University of Pittsburgh’s College of Business Administration. John’s educational background includes an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan, and a B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh – where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
John has over 15
years of experience as a management consultant and as a financial manager,
working with companies ranging from early stage startups to FORTUNE 100
multinationals. He was a management consultant with Booz, Allen &
Hamilton and Deloitte & Touche and held senior financial management
positions with FORE Systems, Inc. and Marconi plc. In addition, John
has served as CFO for several early-stage technology companies and provided
financial consulting services to many other such companies. He has extensive
experience in strategic planning and analysis, business development,
forecasting and competitive analysis. John holds a B.S. degree in
Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a M.B.A. degree
(focused on corporate finance) from Carnegie Mellon University.
Charlie has over 30
years of experience as an attorney, tax accountant, management consultant
and entrepreneur. Prior to Socius, he spent seven years as a self-employed
consultant serving the provider side of the nation’s health care industry,
dealing principally with capital formation and transactional issues.
Earlier in his career, he was a tax partner and national consulting partner
within the healthcare industry at Coopers & Lybrand, LLP. Charlie has
been involved in the creation and launch of a number of companies and has
extensive experience in strategic analysis and planning, joint venturing,
business development, technology commercialization and venture financing.
He holds a B.B.A. degree from the University of Michigan and a J.D. degree
from the University of Detroit. He is also a Certified Public
Accountant.
Matt has over 23 years of experience in the tissue engineering, medical device, biomaterials, polymer, drug delivery, tissue adhesives and personal care industries. He has been a co-founder of several companies and has extensive experience in: new technology evaluation; moving new technologies from laboratory through pilot phase and into manufacturing; managing FDA and USPTO processes; forming strategic alliances; and, managing joint ventures in both start-up and large international organizations. He has proven interpersonal skills in managing research and technical personnel as well as interfacing with business partners. Matt holds nine patents and has another three pending. He has B.A. and M.A. degrees in Cell Physiology from the University of California at Santa Barbara and has been trained as a mechanical engineer.
